The pair met whilst living in Melbourne in 2016 – Steph worked as a barista and Grace in a record shop. Steph had learnt to beat match as part of her Event Performance course at Leeds University and, after meeting Grace, decided to cut her teeth at record collecting. Once back in London, the pair founded a night at The Nines record store in Peckham which started as an event “playing tracks for a group of [their] mates.” And the name? “Raw Silk was the name of an 80s vinyl that we both owned, so it went from there.” At The Nines, they got noticed by the Percolate group – an underground London music collective founded in 2012 – then went on to be their residents in 2017. With several summer bookings in the pipeline, the duo hopes to tour Europe and further afar in 2019.
